Module Seven: Being Human in the Machine Age

Welcome to Module Seven: Being Human in the Machine Age.

To get started, watch the introductory video below and then use your module password to start looking through the materials on the tabs to the left.

Alan Turing, the mathematician and computer scientist, predicted that by the year 2000, artificial intelligence would have developed to such an extent that they would be able to pass as human 30% of the time. While Turing's prediction may have been slightly optimistic, computer scientists continue to develop machines that try to capture the essence of what it means to be human and are becoming more and more successful.

This module will look at the work of some of these computer scientists, along with some creative responses to technology, to consider questions about how computers are reshaping our sense of self, what it is that makes us uniquely human and how this changes as we are faced by increasingly human-like machines.
