COVID-19 UPDATE: MARCH 2021

According to the current covid-19 roadmap, all UK restrictions on large events such as ours will be lifted in June, making us confident that our 2021 Open Minds course will go ahead as planned.

This is subject to change in accordance with government guidelines. As such, we will be as flexible as possible should your plans change and will be offering full refunds, including the deposit, on any cancellations up until 30 June 2021. We will also do our best to help students to meet any further travel restrictions that may be in place for those travelling from abroad.

Alan Turing, the mathematician and computer scientist, predicted that by the year 2000, artificial intelligence would have developed to such an extent that they would be able to pass as human 30% of the time. While Turing's prediction may have been slightly optimistic, computer scientists continue to develop machines that try to capture the essence of what it means to be human and are becoming more and more successful.

This module will look at the work of some of these computer scientists, along with some creative responses to technology, to consider questions about how computers are reshaping our sense of self, what it is that makes us uniquely human and how this changes as we are faced by increasingly human-like machines.
